A couple in a non-monogamous relationship has opened up about how they juggle a joint girlfriend while expecting a baby.
Jess and Stephen DeMarco have been married for 14 years and describe themselves as polyamorous.
The pair, from Tampa, Florida, has amassed millions of followers detailing their unconventional relationship, which often involves a third person, making them a “throuple”.
But after falling pregnant following years of fertility issues recently, many are questioning how their girlfriend will cope with a baby in the mix.
“People think our relationship isn’t going to work because we’re having a baby now,” Jess told The US Sun.
“We definitely get a lot of messages like, ‘are you guys going to stop this crazy behavior, now that you’ve got a kid on the way?’”
However, after five years of trying to get pregnant and suffering several miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy, the lovers are more confident than ever in their unusual setup.
“Now that we’re pregnant we do like to show the more real ‘it takes a village’ point of view,” Jess explained, adding it has helped people come around to the idea of polyamory.
“I think that we’re starting to teach people and men and women alike that it’s not a sex thing,” Jess said.
This is a detail Stephen stressed too, explaining the pair were “fine” with copping heat if it helps others.
“If we can take the heat off of all the future people being polyamorous, and let all the other people get all their disses out on us, we’re more than fine with that,” he said.
“There’s always things that you’re going to have to worry about with how your kids are going to be judged, but hopefully we’re thinking that we’re paving the way for people to start having an open view.”
In a recent TikTok video, Jess and Stephen opened up further about having a baby while in an open relationship with their girlfriend who goes by the handle @galaxii.xoxo on TikTok.
“Yes I’m polyamorous and pregnant,” Jess begins. “This is my husband of 14 years and this is our girlfriend.
“I date him, he dates her, I date her. We’re all excited to spoil this baby together.”
Among the thousands of comments were many weighing in on whether they could handle being in their situation.
“No my jealousy could never,” one wrote.
“Twos company, threes a crowd,” another said.
As one claimed: “The only person who benefits here is him.”
Others however said they were “happy” for the family, wishing them well and sending their support.
But some had questions over the “modern” household.
“Will they call the girlfriend mummy too? or just you?” one pressed.
“Won’t the baby be confused?” another asked.
In the past, Jess and Stephen’s relationship has garnered attention over their unusual sleeping arrangements prompting Jess to explain how it works.
“Usually him and I sleep together but tonight it’s going to be him and her in the king bed,” she said.
“So I’ll sleep right between them, in the middle.”
Her revelation sent the internet into a spin, with thousands of confused and curious users flooding the comments section.
Some had questions about the logistics of the situation, asking how she uses the bathroom in the night without “disturbing” her partners.
While others said it sounded “brutal” and “uncomfortable”.
